| TERRAFORMER 13 – More Psionics |
It took far too long to get out, but TERRAFORMER 13 is now available. This issue features a new psionic-based advanced class, the Mind Hunters. This cadre of elite warriors specialize in hunting down and neutralizing enemies attuned to Red Truth. It uses a nifty new mechanic, where psionic power points are expended to call on and augment inherent class powers. This issue also marks the first appearance of our new art partners, AvatarArt. I think you’ll agree that their take on the haimedian with the neural blaster is pretty sweet.

| DS “Turns the Game Geeks’ Crank” |
YouTube reviewer Kurt Wiegel turned his critical eye to Dawning Star and had nothing but nice things to say about the setting. But don’t take my word for it; watch for yourself. |

| Dawning Star at Eruvian.com |
I’m very excited to announce that Dawning Star is the first commercial campaign setting to be licensed for use on Eruvian.com. For those who don’t know, Eruvian is a community-based world-building site -- essentially an open site for storing, modifying, and building rpg campaign settings. I encourage you to drop by for a visit and add your own content to the DS pages, including NPCs, Organizations, Xenomorphs, and Adventures. |

| "The Great Unknown" - EN World Story Hour |
EN World user Teneb has started a new Story Hour set in the Dawning Star setting entitled "The Great Unknown". He's setting up two stories serially--one in the present and one from four years earlier--and I can't wait to see how they tie in together. You can read the story from the beginning HERE. |

Ticket #1 went for an amazing $280!!! Ticket #2 is now on the auction block, and the bid is already north of $200. So you'll have to come strong if you want to get the last ticket for this once-in-a-lifetime gaming event. Keep in mind that all of the proceeds of the auction will go to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. If you have questions or comments, I've also started a separate forum dedicated to the VIP Game. |

| ENnies Nominations / Sci-Fi Week at RPGnet / Review of Shadow Falling |
Lots of stuff going on this week. First off, the ENnies nominations came out, and we couldn't be happier. Helios Rising [link to HR product page] was honored with FOUR nominations: Best Cover Art, Best d20 Game, Best Setting, and Product of the Year. That's an amazing accomplishment considering the gargantuan list of entries. Indie Press Revolution has put up a special page for all of the members' nominated products, including HR. |

The first of three players' tickets is now up for auction on Ebay. Of prime importance, please keep in mind that 100% of all proceeds of the event, including the full bid for the ticket, will go to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. | DAWNING STAR VIP GAME TO BENEFIT SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN |
Blue Devil Games Hosts Special Gen Con Event with Guest of Honor JD Wiker
May 16, 2007 - PLANTATION, FL: Blue Devil Games is proud to announce a truly unique event at this year’s Gen Con: a once-in-a-lifetime role-playing game and a way to help some truly needy children, all in one fun-filled evening. The “Dawning Star VIP Game” will be held on Friday, August 17th from 7:00 PM until 11:00 PM at the Alcatraz Brewing Company located at the Circle Centre Mall, just steps from the Indianapolis Convention Center.
The “Dawning Star VIP Game” finds seven lucky participants guiding their characters through a gauntlet of near-certain death in “Dawn of War” a prelude to next year’s thrilling Dawning Star release: Shadow War. Lead Dawning Star designer Lee Hammock (HALO graphic novel, Fallen Earth MMORPG) will write and GM the adventure—the only game he will GM at Gen Con this year. One of the characters will be helmed by our special VIP guest of honor, the lead designer of d20 Future, none other than JD Wiker (d20 Menace Manual, Star Wars Role-Playing Game).
In addition to a great evening of gaming, the event promises a host of other goodies. Attendees will dine on fine food and drink absolutely free, including the restaurant’s mouth-watering burgers, pizzas, steaks, and seafood entrees. Blue Devil Games will give away unbelievable prizes, including a unique game publication only available to attendees—never to be published again. Players will create their own characters in the time leading up to Gen Con. Players will receive a custom portrait of their characters to take home, and each character will appear in an upcoming Dawning Star publication with an appropriate development credit and a free contributor copy.
Best of all, 100% of all proceeds from the event go to help the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of 22 pediatric hospitals in the U.S., Canada and Mexico providing specialized care for orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate. For more than 85 years, Shriners Hospitals have provided invaluable medical services at no charge to the family. Eligibility for care is not based on financial need or relationship to a Shriner. You can learn more about Shriners Hospitals by visiting their website: www.shrinershq.org.
Participation in the game itself is by special invitation only, but you can attend, eat some great food, and watch all the festivities by purchasing one of only ten spectator's invitations. An announcement about these limited invitations will be made soon. For more information about the event, visit our website: www.dawningstar.com/VIPGame

| Interview - Justin Reveals All! |
I recently sat down for an interview with McCoy, the voice behind Radio Free Eos. Maybe I was loopy from the lack of sleep, but I gave up a lot of juicy info about where DS started, where it's going, and some other plans for Blue Devil Games, including a few announcements I haven't made anywhere else. |

| Red Truth Revealed |

| RPG Pundit Has a Go at Shadow Falling |
The RPG Pundit took it upon himself to review Shadow Falling, applying is unique style and viewpoint to the product. All in all, a nice review. He particularly liked the "great conclusion" to the adventure with its dramatic, climactic battle. |

We just released TF10 on the fastest growing corporation on the planet: Eotian Air Carriers. With a fleet of ultar-light aero vehicles developed from technology obtained under mysterious circumstances, EAC offers fast and easy passage and cargo transport across Eos's wide open spaces.
On a related note, we've modified the TERRAFORMER subscription so it's a straight 20-issue subscription. If you purchased the subscription, you should have received an e-mail about this change. If not, please contact me directly at justin[at]bluedevilgames[dot]com.

| We'll Have You Seeing Red |
We're happy to make available for free download one of the adventures from
Gen Con '06. Seeing Red finds the PCs in the small
town of King's Gulch when things go quickly awry. What starts out as a
misguided attempt by some common thugs to scare the locals soon becomes a
fight against information itself. The adventure is suited for 4-8 characters
of levels 5-8 and includes maps and sample PCs. |

| TERRAFORMER 9 - Grass Widow AdC |
TF9 is out, featuring the Grass Widow advanced class by Lee Hammock. The grass widows are a tradition unique to the velin. Sometimes, when a velin experiences a deep emotional loss--usually the death of a loved one--they seek salvation by way of madness. The velin embarks on a journey to the sacred Hall of Worlds and voluntarily exposes himself to the information-dense realm of Red Truth. If he survives, he is armed with a deeper understanding of the world and uses those powers to protect those who yet live. The pdf includes a full write-up of the 10-leve prestige class, 9 new psionic powers, a new poison, and 2 NPCs.
TERRAFORMER 9 - Grass Widow AdC is available at RPG Now. |

| The First Full-Length Helios Rising Review |
Given that it's the largest sci-fi setting book ever published, we fully expected it would take awhile for the reviews to pour in. Well, we've got our first. Christopher W. Richeson writes: "If you’re looking for a detailed star system for d20 Future adventures then Helios Rising can definitely handle the task." If you write a review of Helios Rising, be sure to let us know. |
| 11.03.2006 |
| TERRAFORMER 8 - Aquatic Xenomorphs |
Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water. The eighth installment of TERRAFORMER finds long-time DS contributor Chad Barr serving up 8 new alien critters including the pesky centurion toad and the gargantuan cyclopolith. As with each issue, TERRAFORMER 8 is available from RPG Now. |

| OQL gets an A- |
d20 Magazine Rack has posted a very nice review of Operation Quick Launch. John Grigsby writes that Dawning Star "is compelling because it's the kind of setting that could exist." |

| It's Time To Ride the Rails! |
We're happy to announce the release of TERRAFORMER 7 - Trains of Eos. Written by Lee Hammock, TF7 is 28 pages crammed to the margins with information on the trains that stretch across Dawnhome, including descriptions of the major lines, descriptions of the engines and cars (and a new ultralight aircraft), and descriptions of some train-mounted weapons. And, oh yeah, a write-up of one of the marshals of the Republic Transit Authority. |
| 9.05.2006 |
| TERRAFORMER Pipeline |
For those of you getting antsy for some more issues of TERRAFORMER, rest easy! We've got three issues ready to go. Unfortunately, RPG Now (our primary pdf distributor) had a major hard drive crash. Because all of our subscriptions are run through them, I'm not going to upload new issues until they get back up and running. Hopefully it won't be more than a few days. Once they're up, we will release 3 issues over the next few weeks. To whet your appettite, TERRAFORMER 7 is on the trains of Eos. |
We're happy to announce a new cross-promotion effort with the good guys over at Reality Deviant Publications and Highmoon Media Productions. They've started up a new pdf line called DaVinci Labs, a manufactuerer of high-tech weapons, cybernetic devices, robots, mecha, and more. Volume One presents the UDR-4 Arrowhead mecha and includes advice for incorporating the device into your Dawning Star campaign. The pdf is well written and features some nice artwork. We look forward to future projects with them, allowing Dawning Star to keep its title as the best-supported sci-fi setting around. |

| Top Secret Government Report Revealed! |
We managed to get our hands on a top-secret government report. (Probably best if I don't mentioned how.) I thought you would find it interesting. So, at great personal risk and most likely some serious jail time, I've decided to post it on the website. You can download the report here. |
| 7.26.2006 |
| The First Review Is In |
Given the size of Helios Rising, I thought it might take awhile for the reviews to roll in. But I keep hearing about how excited everyone is about the book and how they can't put it down. Well, Jose LaCario was nice enough to write a very thorough review of the book. He summarizes: "With everything contained in this product, there is bound to be something interesting for everyone. I cannot recommend it enough." You can read the full review here. |

| Helios Rising Has Arrived! |
Almost two years in the making, Helios Rising is now available in pdf format at both RPG Now and the EN World Game Store. The pdf is 540 pages (and over 50 megs!) and sells for $17.95. It will be released in print format at Gen Con and will be available through Indie Press Revolution and Key20 immediately thereafter. It will also be available at finer game stores thanks to Key20's distribution network. We will also be running a pre-order special through IPR. If you pre-order the book, you will immediately receive a free copy of the pdf.
I want to heartily congratulate the entire DS team: Lee Hammock, Danilo Moretti, Chad Barr, Brandes, Stoddard, RJ Grady, and all the playtesters. They poured an enormous amount of themselves into this book, and it shows! You can help repay their efforts by writing reviews of the book, posting about it on message boards that you frequent, and generally talking it up to your local game store and your friends.
(Note: The pdf will also be available through Drive-Thru RPG soon; I'm having difficulties with the upload.) |

Lee Hammock, the lead writer and designer for Dawning Star (and one of the writers of the upcoming HALO Graphic Novel) will be attending Comic-Con in San Diego, California this July. Among other things, Lee will be serving on a panel discussion of tabel-top game design and will be discussing everyone's favorite d20 sci-fi setting. The panel will be held on Saturday, July 22nd, from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, in Room 24 A. Stop by and say "hello". |

| Helios Rising Art Preview |
Helios Rising is coming. We are now scheduled for a July 10th release in pdf format and the print debut at Gen Con. In the interim, we'll be doing a few more previews. (If you haven't picked up the free Hephaestus, what are you waiting for?) I'm ecstatic to present a new pdf for download featuring the Art of Helios Rising. This 18-page pdf shows off some of Danilo's amazing new artwork, from action shots to graphical elements to technical drawings. The pdf also offers a hint at just a fraction of the material contained in this mammoth book. |
| 5.25.2006 |
| Hammock Interview |
Lee Hammock, the lead writer and driving force behind the Dawning Star line, is also the writer for the cornerstone story in the upcoming HALO graphic novel. He was recently interviewed at Bungie.net. They were kind enough to post a link to our site, so I thought only right to return the favor. Plus you can check out some of the amazing visuals for the highly anticipated book. |
| 5.17.2006 |
| TERRAFORMER 5 - Dawning Star Kung Fu |
TERRAFORMER 5 is out, featuring 3 human fighting styles: Dawning Star Kung Fu, ESF Special Forces, and Zero-G Boxing. | Helios Rising Page-Count Contest |
Like some self-replicating nanite colony gone horribly awry, the page count for our upcoming Helios Rising release keeps going up. So we decided to make a contest out of it. If you can guess how many pages Helios Rising will be, we'll send you a free copy of the book in both pdf and print format. Nothing fancy. Just e-mail me at justin[at]bluedevilgames[dot]com with your guess for the number of pages the final book will be. Use the subject line "Helios Rising Page-Count Contest" and make sure you include the number of pages for your guess, your name, and your e-mail address for us to contact you if you win. When Helios Rising is released in pdf format, we will determine who came closest. The page count will include all of the pages (including unnumbered pages) but will not include the front or back cover. If there's a tie for the winning guess, all of the entries with the winning guess will win the prize. We will take entries up until 12:00 AM (midnight) EST on May 5, 2006. Here's a hint: If you look around our site and various message boards, you can get some additional information to help you make your guess.
Limit one entry per person.
The contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who entered. |

| Radio Free Eos #4 |
Episode 4 of Radio Free Eos is available for download in mp3 format. This
latest podcast is all about planes, trains, and automobiles. It features
items on the deadly Air Runner Race (planes), the newly christened Iron Scar
Express (trains), and the expedition to Phaeton (automobiles -- you know,
the VW Phaeton). In all seriousness, the Phaeton piece lays the foundation
for Helios Rising and gives a taste of how an adventure to the stars might
begin and what obstacles it might face. |

One of our biggest fans, Frank Mikes, has put together an Excel-based

| Radio Free Eos, Ep. 2 |
The second episode of Radio Free Eos is now available. Includes the TRUTH about poker tournaments, a new line of handguns released on the market, the kick-off of a nouveau blues concert tour, a great bit about velin integration efforts, and -- oh yes -- darklings. |
To ensure a steady flow of material for your Dawning Star campaign (and to tide you over until the release of Helios Rising), we've introduced a new product line: TERRAFORMER. We had previously solicited material for an e-zine of the same name but decided to package it as a short pdf line instead. Each issue of TERRAFORMER will introduce a single mechanic or group of mechanics such as a prestige class, group of feats, weapon, xenomorph, etc. Each entry is designed for Dawning Star but includes advice for using it in any sci-fi campaign. TERRAFORMER #1 presents the Daybringer prestige class -- velin that hunt down the vaasi where they live. Shape your world! |

| Helios Rising - Hephaestus for FREE! |
To help tide the fans over until Helios Rising is ready for release, we've decided to give away Chapter 3: Hephaestus, the prison planet turned war zone. You can get the link for the free download at RPG Now. Helios Rising? Writing is 100% done. Editing and layout are 40% done. Pdf release date? March. |
One of our fans sent along the first episode of Radio Free Eos, giving you all the "real" news of the day. I'm looking forward to future episodes. I'll also take the opportunity to update on the progress of Helios Rising. All of the text is completed, editing is progressing swiftly, and Danilo's about 20% of the way through art and layout. Looks like it will be another month or perhaps even two. I'll say it again, HR has grown exponentially from our original plan and now looks to be clocking in at around 400 pages! To help tide you over, we are going to release another chapter absolutely free. Stay tuned and thanks for your continued patience. |

| Shadow Has Fallen |
Finally! Shadow Falling is now available in print format through our partners at Indie Press Revolution. We apologize for the delays in getting it to print, which were caused by some problems with our original printer. I'm happy to report that the book looks fantastic, and our new printer really did justice to Danilo's haunting cover art. Because so many people wanted to pick it up at Gen Con but were unable to do so, I've agreed to pay for the shipping costs within the U.S. and Canada for the first two weeks of release. So strike while the blaster pistol is hot and pick up a copy today. |
| 9.23.2005 |
| The Beginning of the End |
One of our big plans for Dawning Star is the vaasi war adventure arc, which includes our recently released module, Shadow Falling and will culminate with our mega-adventure Shadow War. But it all begins with The Edge of Shadow, the adventure we ran at Gen Con. The pdf features another haunting cover by Danilo Moretti, 8 pre-generated characters, and directly leads into the events of Shadow Falling. And best of all, it's FREE! |
| 9.10.2005 |
| Shadow
Falling Counters |
Shadow
Falling should be available at Indie Press Revolution shortly.
In the interim, we've posted the counter sheets for free
download. These counters feature Danilo Moretti's fabulous
art and are suitable for use with the adventure or most any
other sci-fi campaign. |

If you've signed up for one of our Dawning Star events at
the convention, you'll get a jump start, as "The Edge of Shadow"
directly leads into the events of Shadow Falling. The Edge
of Shadow will be available as a free download sometime after
Gen Con, and Shadow Falling will be on sale through Indie
Press Revolution and in pdf format at RPG Now and Drive-Thru
RPG. For a sneak peek, check out Danilo's hypnotic cover.

| ENnies Nom and Shadow Falling Progress |
I'm
happy to report that Dawning Star: Operation Quick Launch
was nominated for an ENnie for Best d20 Game. The competition
in this category is fierce, so we need all the help we can
get. You can vote for OQL and a host of other categories at
the Official
ENnies Homepage. I'd like to thank the whole OQL team
once again: Lee Hammock, Danilo Moretti, Chad Barr, R.J. Grady,
Brandes Stoddard, and of course the playtesters.
Shadow Falling is moving along at warp speed. It will be tight, but we should be able to get it done in time for Gen Con. The adventure will be for characters of 4th-6th level and can easily be used in most d20 sci-fi campaigns. Lee's done an excellent job incorporating a number of different types of encounters into what is essentially a rip-snorting treasure hunt. It's going to be a blast to play. We should have the cover available for preview in a few days. |

We're
still plugging away on Helios Rising. We've just added the
demo, including the cover and introduction, which is available
for download here. However,
despite the caffeine-powered-robot-like efforts of the entire
crew, we will not have her finished in time for Gen Con. We
will continue to post regular updates and previews from this
point forward. I still don't know how big the final book will
be, but it will be huge.
But
every time the Star Confederation closes a door, they open
a window. Our suprise announcement is that Shadow Falling
will be released at Gen Con! Shadow Falling is an adventure
module that takes the heroes into the depths of one of Eos's
alien ruins and reveals a secret that will shake humanity
to its very core. This low-level adventure will be usable
in any d20 sci-fi campaign and is brought to you by the same
team that brought you OQL and Helios Rising. More to come!

| Helios Rising Sneak Peek |
We're
still plugging away on Helios Rising, the second installment
in the Dawning Star line. As I've recently announced, we missed
our original deadline because we've decided to explode the
book to 350+ pages. We're planning a Gen Con release and will
post regular previews and updates as we progress. To get the
ball rolling, click here
to get the first glimpse of Danilo Moretti's spectacular cover. |
The
reviews keep pouring in. Most recently, Jeremy Reaban gave
it a 5 out of 5 for both style and substance. Posted at RPGnet,
Jeremy calls it "utterly fascinating" and "compelling." Click

The
first review of Operation Quick Launch is in. Nick Mulherin
of Silven
Crossroads offered some glowing praise of OQL, including:
"With the possible exception of Malhavoc’s Arcana Evolved,
Dawning Star: Operation Quick Launch is the most stunning
book that I’ve seen over the last six months. It’s a terrific
resource that any gamer interested in a cohesive, interesting
science fiction setting should own.
I
am also happy to report that the hardcover edition of OQL
is available for preorder at Indie
Press Revolution with free shipping! The proofs are back

| Dawning Star Is Cleared for Launch |
|
I'm
happy to report that Dawning Star: Operation Quick Launch
is now back on track. We officially terminated our contract
with Mr. Simpson and have retained Danilo Moretti to handle
the art and graphic design for the project. Some of you might
remember Mr. Moretti from his illustrations in 1st
Appearance: T.O.M.C.A.T.S and his cover for 1st
Appearance: Luminous. You can also visit his web
site and see some more of his great work. Mr. Moretti
is a consummate professional, and he has assured me that OQL
will be available for release in February. I've already reviewed
some of the initial layout and illustration, and it's superb.
We should have a new preview pdf released in a week or two
and will have regular updates and previews until (and even
after) its release.
Thank you for your continued interest and patience. We know you'll find Dawning Star to be worth the wait. |

| Dawning Star on Temporary Hold Due to Artist Issues |
Unfortunately, I just found out that some of the artwork proffered by Gary Simpson for Dawning Star was derivative of and unattributed to another artist, which Mr. Simpson passed off as his own. In short, plagarism.
First, I would like to offer my deepest apologies to Travis Charest, the artist whose work was lifted. I can assure you that I was unaware of the error. I consider plagarism to be the single biggest transgression that can be committed against an artist, and if there is anything I can do to personally remedy the matter, please contact me directly at justin[at]bluedevilgames[dot]com.
Second, this will necessarily result in a minor delay in the release of Dawning Star. I am in the process of contracting with another artist at this time, and I should have something to announce very shortly.
Third, it is my greatest hope that this occurrence will not cast a black cloud over the project. Specifically, Mr. Simpson's misstep should not reflect poorly on the other Dawning Star contributors, who have the utmost integrity: Lee Hammock, Chad Barr, and Robert Grady. They are all skilled writers and good people, and they deserve your support.
Fourth, any publisher who is considering using Mr. Simpson for freelance work should feel free to contact me directly to discuss the matter.
The preview link has been temporarily disabled, since the preview contains some of the offending material. We will post a new link as soon as the problem is resolved. Thank you for your patience.
